Puyallup’s newest retirement community opens
Date:5/15/2019

It is a busy time at Wesley Bradley Park as its Pioneer residents move into the Lodge, the hub of the latest Wesley community, throughout April and May.

Purchased in 2009 by faith-based, not-for-profit Wesley retirement communities and home health services, the 19 acre property on South Hill is now officially home to over 100 residents with more moving in daily.

The community features a five-story Lodge with independent living residences, Catered Living apartments and The Arbor assisted living memory care. The Brownstone, with its condo-style apartments, opened in the summer of 2018.

Earlier in April, Wesley Bradley Park Ambassadors and Pioneers were able to tour the building as the construction entered its final phase. They got a firsthand look at their new apartment homes before moving in.

“You could just feel the anticipation of everyone walking into the building with excitement and big smiles on their faces,” said Campus Administrator TC Fraser. “Bradley Park is the first community of this kind to offer such a robust network of services for adults 62 years of age or better in Puyallup.”

Amenity spaces were developed with a wide range of interests in mind: a learning center/theater; multiple dining venues, a creative arts center, a wood shop, a fully equipped health and wellness center, a beauty salon, a club room, a library and a chapel/auditorium.

A unique feature of the community is The Director’s Lounge, which is a tribute to Thomas R. Absher and all those who have served as directors of the Washington State Fair. The lounge is available for private parties and social gatherings of residents.

Site planning and building layout started in early 2015 with construction beginning in March 2017. Since then, Absher Construction, Wesley staff and future residents have photographed the progress for those who eagerly awaited the completion of their new home.

It was all hands on deck with staff from Wesley Des Moines, Wesley Lea Hill and the corporate office working to help open the building and facilitate dozens of moves each week.

The Catered Living program, with its assisted-living like services, launched for residents in The Commons apartments on May 7.

Fraser and his team are focused on training new staff, setting up campus services and assembling resident committees and the resident council. Resident committees are needed to help set up and maintain the library, resident gardens, creativity center and wood shop.

Wesley is coordinating with Pierce College to provide various life-enriching programs in and around the campus through Wesley U, a continuing education program funded by Wesley Community Foundation. All courses are free to residents and older adults in the greater community.

The application for licensing The Arbor, Bradley Park’s assisted living memory care wing, is in process. Once open, The Arbor will be staffed for 17 residents in individual apartments with community gathering spaces and a patio garden.

Celebrating its 75th anniversary, Wesley Homes is a not-for-profit organization that offers a continuum of care for older adults. Wesley operates three retirement communities and a home health agency. Wesley Des Moines and Wesley Lea Hill in Auburn provide a network of services, including independent living, assisted living and Catered Living; skilled nursing and rehabilitation; and memory care. Wesley Bradley Park in Puyallup provides independent living, Catered Living and memory care. Wesley Health & Home Care provides Medicare- Medicaid-certified services, in-home care and hospice services to clients in King and Pierce counties.
