Lingering Dental Myths Conceal the Truth that Modern Dental Care is More Comfortable than Ever, says Elegant Dentistry
Date:5/14/2019

An April 30 article on the University of Utah Health website dispels some lingering myths about root canal procedures. The long-held misconception is that the procedure is more than a little bit agonizing; however, the article reminds us that reality says otherwise. While things were much different decades and centuries prior, the article notes that “the majority of people that have root canals experience very little pain” thanks to the reality that modern dentistry has largely mastered anesthesia – to the point where sensitive oral nerves can today be reliably numbed with a series of gentle injections. The myth about root canals in particular, according to the article, actually stems from reoccurring jokes made by mid-century “Tonight Show” legend Johnny Carson, who was born in 1925 and whose career peaked in the 1960s and 1970s. Marina Del Rey-based dental clinic Elegant Dentistry says that it’s undeniable that’s today’s dentistry has made root canals and other procedures remarkably comfortable; the myths that hover around dentistry are long outdated and often wildly exaggerated.

Nevertheless, Elegant Dentistry says that dental anxiety is a common phenomenon among patients, particularly when the operations have reputations that may be somewhat intimidating to the dentally uninformed. Crown fillings, dental implants, tooth extractions, and the aforementioned root canal operations are extremely routine procedures that have been perfected over many decades and rarely involve more than very minor discomfort, the clinic adds. Not only have procedures become extremely safe and effective, but the clinic also emphasizes that the science of anesthesia has continued to make strides alongside other areas of modern medicine.

The clinic adds that patients need to realize that discomfort associated with even the most invasive dental procedures is dwarfed by most toothaches, which can often involve truly intense pain. It adds that patients should be far more afraid of painful and expensive tooth issues than a visit to the dentist for a teeth cleaning or even a cavity filling or root canal. Ask anyone who’s dealt with serious dental issues, prevention is always best, says the clinic.

Elegant Dentistry says that it works hard to provide a highly welcoming environment for all of its patients, whether it is their first visit or their 100th. It adds that its offices are open from 10:00 am to the early evening, Monday through Saturday and their friendly representatives look forward to assisting you with all of your dental needs.

Readers who are interested in learning more about the services Elegant Dentistry provides are encouraged to visit the clinic’s website at https://elegantdentistry.net/ or call (310) 827-2792.
