Date:10/29/2015

NEW YORK, Oct. 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- About Intragastric Balloon

Obesity is a medical condition associated with the accumulation of excess fat. A person with a body mass index of 30 or more is considered obese. According to the WHO, more than 1.9 billion adults aged 18 years and above were overweight in 2014. Worldwide there are more than 671 million obese people, particularly in countries such as the US, Brazil, Belgium, Mexico, Germany, France, Egypt, Russia, the UK, and Australia. In European countries, 26% of the male and 24% of the female population are estimated to be obese.

Obesity is linked to many life-threatening conditions and results in the deaths of 2.8 million people each year. Bariatric surgery is one of the most common treatment methods for obesity. This procedure helps reduce weight by restricting the amount of food that the stomach can hold. Intragastric balloon surgery involves the insertion of a silicone balloon into the stomach as a temporary weight loss measure.

Technavio's analysts forecast the global intragastric balloon market to grow at a CAGR of 6.93% during 2014-2019.
