No Kidding, All Gizmos and No Play Makes Jack A Super-Dull Boy!

Chicago: This piece of news challenges parenting stereotypes; Today’s parents boast about the numerous classes kids attend and the number of computer games// they play, and the many talents they possess. Competitive parents in their quest for being ‘super-parents’ and overriding ambition to churn out ‘super-kids’ , often smother their children with an over-dose of love and expectation – in the form of gadgets , gizmos , play stations, and game boys… and Oh boy, the kid is trapped !

Delving into the child psyche, The American Academy of Pediatrics has enabled a detailed report that is a stark reminder to parents, to just let the child be! The report reiterates that kids need freedom to play in gay abandon that does not follow any specific pattern or structure.

According to experts, it is the parents who need to be blamed for couch potato kids. In today’s competitive scenario, kids are pulled into the vortex of stress, unwittingly, with subtle demands of perfection, laid down by parents. It is uncommon to find children these days, taking a walk in the garden, observing plants, and butterflies and just being close to nature. Undoubtedly, this has its own benefits for healthy child development, much more than what heavy duty gizmos and gadgets can do.

The present parenting trend increases stress in children and can even spark off depression, experts have said. On the contrary, spontaneous play, tickles the child’s thinking, imagination and creativity, influencing the child’s ability to solve problems, adapt to changing environs and overall impact the Intelligence as well as Emotional Quotient in the growing years.

So parents live and let live … allow your children to be mavericks without breathing down their neck!
