d'Oliveira & Associates Helps Fall River, MA Teenager Receive $38,500 in Auto Accident Settlement

The personal injury and auto accident attorneys at d'Oliveira & Associates recently obtained an out of court settlement of $38,500 for one of their clients. The client was injured when the other driver failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with the client's vehicle. Case# FR2879

She was immediately brought to the hospital where doctors treated her multiple lacerations and a knee contusion. She also sustained a number of sprains on her body and had to undergo physical therapy. Further, she also had a scar from the accident.

After contacting the personal injury attorneys at the law offices of d'Oliveira & Associates, Attorney Robin Gouveia was able to win the client an award of $38,500 and did not charge her a fee until she was fully compensated. (case was settled before court Second District Court, Fall River Ma)

Attorney Robin Gouveia stated that “we filed suit to make sure the insurance company knew we would go to court if we didn’t get a good offer to settle the case. The client agreed to have photographs taken of her scarring, and these were used to increase the settlement offer.”

While it may seem unlikely for major accidents to occur on less populated roads that use stop signs instead of traffic lights, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has found that stop sign violations account for nearly 70% of all recorded crashes. While it's true that insuring that you come to a complete stop at a stop sign will diminish the likelihood of an accident, the danger posed by other negligent drivers is still significant. In fact, the Institute reported that one of the more important solutions to stop sign accidents is simply improving line of sight conditions so that responsible drivers are better able to determine whether other negligent drivers are also coming through the intersection.
