World Renowned Ear Reconstruction Surgeon Heralds New Technique

Dr. Mark Mitchell Jones, a pioneer in ear reconstruction surgery, announced today the development of a medical technique called “integration” that will continue to bring stability and assuredness to a 14-year-old girl suffering from a rare physical deformity. Danielle Pass met with Dr. Jones a decade ago at the age of 4. Although she was too young to realize it, her ear was misshapen and underdeveloped. She suffered from a congenital deformity called Microtia, a rare medical condition that occurs in about 1 out of every 8,000-10,000 births.

Worried for their child’s wellbeing, Pass’s parents sought out Dr. Jones for help. Dr. Jones performed a staged reconstruction for microtia, and when Danielle emerged from ear surgery, it was if she never suffered from any kind of physical ear deformity at all.

“I couldn’t imagine a more bright, caring, and intelligent little girl to help,” Dr. Jones, the Atlanta plastic surgery expert said. “I got into medicine to help people, but Danielle wound up helping me. After performing the surgery she has grown into a fine young woman with confidence boiling just below the surface. And, in the process she inspired me to continue to do what I do. This procedure works, and it's evident with one look at her. I am proud to be a part of her surgery a decade ago and now her touchup. It’s amazing to see how people grow and change when they are accepted into their community.”
