Seminole Resident Liz Barlowe Steps Up to Lead the Aging Life Care Association® in its 35th Year

Liz Barlowe, MA, CMC was recently elected as President of the Aging Life Care Association® Board of Directors (ALCA). Aging Life Care Professionals® have advanced degrees and are experts in health and human services. They assess the needs of older adults and the disabled, and work with the family to provide recommendations for needed goods and services to enhance quality of life, health advocacy, and appropriate housing and care needs. They assist families with the myriad of considerations through cost-effective strategies and superior service.

As a member of ALCA, Ms. Barlowe adheres to the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics developed by the association and its members to ensure public accountability. Barlowe has been practicing as an Aging Life Care Professional® since 2000. “I am proud to lead the Association that defines excellence in my profession and is dedicated to education, professional development, and the highest ethical standards,” said Barlowe. "We will continue to broaden our footprint in the aging industry; assist families who are experiencing the most challenging time of their lives; and help baby boomers plan for a more successful aging journey."

Recognizing a connection with older adults at an early age, Barlowe has spent her career improving the lives of seniors and supporting their families. Her depth of experience with management of traditional assisted living facilities and those serving individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias; home health; community mental health; senior services, and non-profits inform her leadership to address this growing industry. Barlowe holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a master’s degree in Gerontology.

Barlowe received the Fellow designation from ALCA, which recognizes members who have demonstrated themselves to be advanced practitioners and experts in the field of Aging Life Care(tm). She is a past president of the Association’s Florida Chapter and in 2009 received the Outstanding Florida Chapter Member award. Because of her expertise in the field, she was asked to update the “Preparing for Emergencies” chapter of the Handbook of Geriatric Care Management, third and fourth editions (Jones & Bartlett Publishers.)

“We are very excited to have Liz lead the Aging Life Care Association as we celebrate our 35th Anniversary. It’s a special year for us,” said ALCA CEO Taney Hamill. “We are confident under Liz’s leadership it will be another milestone year for the association.”

In addition to leading ALCA, Barlowe continues to provide guidance and advocacy for families who are caring for older relatives or disabled adults. With a specialized focus on issues related to aging, she and her team assists clients with the challenges of aging, such as finding appropriate housing, in-home care, referrals to medical providers or elder law attorneys, as well as the advocacy and support that provides families peace of mind.
