action of reducing targeted muscle activity. The primary differences for patients and physicians lie in the dosing unit measurements and the "spread" of the product once injected.

Most physicians report some quicker response time and also some potential increased longevity, though there are not specific study results on longevity as yet. And some patients claim a more "natural" appearance.

Dr. Pilest noted that the discussions by the primary investigators included all the fine points of the most effective treatment specifics.

"Dysport isn't dosed the same as Botox. Patients need to undertand there is no similarity in unit counts between Dysport and Botox. And where some doctors may run into trouble will be in trying to 'standardize' the doses or use a straight conversion ratio between Botox and Dysport. Dysport allows for unique individualized dosage determination by the physician based on many factors such as muscle thickness, depth of dynamic wrinkles and location of the injection," shared Dr. Pilest. "It may well be that the use of both Dysport and Botox will be applicable to some patients depending on where they wish to minimize lines and wrinkles."

Nissan Pilest is a veteran Board Certified Dermatologist with 30 years' experience. He is a training physician for Allergan's Juvederm and Botox, Bioform's Radiesse, Candela Lasers and the Fraxel re:pair CO2 fractional resurfacing laser. He is an assistant professor for University of California Irvine's Dermatology Department. Previous and current affiliation with the renowned Beckman Laser Institute puts him in a "first to know" position for involvement in emerging laser technology.
