Olympic Gold Medalist Jeneba Tarmoh is Now a Silver Medalist from World Championships in Russia

Jeneba Tarmoh ran the opening leg of the United States 4x100 relay that earned a silver medal on Sunday, the final day of action at Luzhniki Stadium during the 14th IAAF World Championships.

Initially, the Americans placed third in the women’s 4x100 final with a time of 42.75 seconds to finish behind Jamaica, who set a national and championship record of 41.29, and France’s 42.73.

A disqualification of France for passing out of the zone moved the U.S. into the silver medal position with Great Britain (42.87) claiming bronze.

Joining Tarmoh on the relay, which posted a leading qualifying time of 41.82 in the prelims, were Alexandria Anderson, English Gardner and Octavious Freeman. Jamaica had the second best prelim time of 41.87with France third best at 42.25.

While the American squad enjoyed smooth baton exchanges in the prelim race, an early departure by Gardner for the second exchange in the final hampered the Americans chances of challenging Jamaica for the win. Freeman moved the U.S. from seventh to third on the anchor leg.
