WEGENER Equipment to Support Live and File-Based Broadcasts of The Patient Channel and The Newborn Channel to Hospitals Worldwide

DULUTH, Ga., March 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Wegener Corporation (Nasdaq: WGNR), a leading provider of equipment for television, audio, and data distribution networks worldwide, today announced that the NBC Digital Health Network, a New York based division of the iVillage Networks, recently upgraded its WEGENER(R) Compel(R) network control system and installed WEGENER MediaPlan(R) content management software to expand file-based workflows and broadcasts. NBC Digital Health Network has been using United Service Source, Inc (USSI) as their integrator. USSI provides full-scale program management, installation, service, procurement, logistics, and technical support solutions. USSI's relationship with WEGENER(R) allowed for a seamless upgrade to the new version and additional functionality of Compel(R).

Compel(R) is used by NBC Digital Health Network to manage delivery of addressable digital high definition (HD) video and standard definition (SD) video via satellite and IP networks to over 2,200 hospitals nationwide, as well as additional hospitals around the world. The NBC Digital Health Network provides accurate, timely medical education to millions of patients during their hospital stay, through such 24/7 broadcast services as The Patient Channel and The Newborn Channel.

The Patient Channel empowers hospitals to help patients with information about managing their health and recovery. The programming is delivered in realtime via satellite to WEGENER Unity(R) media receivers and fed live to all patient rooms and waiting areas via the hospital's in-house cable television system.

The Newborn Channel offers programming on baby care, parenting and other maternity topics.
