Date:12/4/2008

BANNOCKBURN, Ill., Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Omron Healthcare, Inc. reminds consumers to take full advantage of the remaining dollars left in Flex- Spending Accounts (FSA's) before they expire by purchasing products to take control of their personal and family health such as home blood pressure monitors and nebulizers.

As 2009 health benefit planning comes to a close, many people forget about existing FSA funds available for use this year. Using FSA funds to purchase important health management products is a great way to get a healthy start in 2009. It's important to act quickly to ensure funds get used and not lost by referencing personal FSA plans for deadlines, reimbursement eligibility and other important requirements.

"Consumers don't always know the full range of products that are eligible for FSA's such as home blood pressure monitors and nebulizers," said Bob Kondraske, Chief Operating Officer, Omron Healthcare, Inc. "Using your FSA funds to purchase important preventative home medical devices is a smart way to get the tools you need to be proactive when it comes to managing your health."

AHA Recommends Home Blood Pressure Monitoring

Because high blood pressure -- often called "the silent killer" -- can be difficult to detect in a doctor's office setting alone and has little or no symptoms, the American Heart Association (AHA) now recommends home blood pressure monitoring(1) and suggests purchasing an oscillometric blood pressure monitor that is clinically validated for accuracy. Omron offers a full line of automatic, upper-arm and wrist monitors that are all FSA eligible and independently validated for proven accuracy. A sampling of Omron's FSA eligible home blood pressure monitors include:

* Automatic Blood Pressure Monitor featuring ComFit(TM) Cuff with Morning Hypertension Detector, (HEM 780): This monitor is the first and only blood pressure monitor designed to detect Morning Hypertension, an important predictor of increased risk of stroke. (MSRP $99.99).

* Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor with A.P.S.(TM), (HEM-650): Portable and easy to use when on the go, this wrist model features Advanced Positioning Sensor technology that automatically confirms the monitor is at heart level, ensuring an accurate reading. This monitor provides systolic/diastolic and pulse readings, advanced diagnostics such as an irregular heartbeat detector and an average of the last three blood pressure readings. (MSRP $79.99).

Omron home blood pressure monitors are available at Walgreens, CVS, RiteAid and other fine pharmacies and retailers.

Breathe Easy Anytime, Anywhere

Portable nebulizer systems give patients the ability to effectively manage and treat respiratory conditions such as COPD or children with asthma, in order to help them breathe easy whether at home or on-the-go.

* MicroAir(R) Portable Nebulizer, (NE-U22V) (MSRP $229.99, prescription- only): The Omron MicroAir is the world's smallest nebulizer, weighing only six ounces, and is cordless and operates on two AA batteries. This innovative nebulizer does not require the mixing of medications with saline and is the only product with VMT (vibrating mesh technology) ensuring that medication reaches deeper in the lungs than table top nebulizers. The Omron MicroAir is available for purchase at local pharmacies or online respiratory providers.
