Learn to Lead Chapel Series Seeks To Inspire Jackson Christian Students, Community

Jackson Christian School is continuing to build on its nearly 40-year tradition of cultivating Christian leaders with its Learn to Lead series this school year. Guest speakers will address sixth through 12th grade students in chapel services throughout the year. Each will share stories that highlight important character traits and explain how they have used Christian living principles in their personal and professional leadership roles. Chapel services begin at 9:35 a.m. in the main gymnasium and are open to the public.

Director of Advancement Chris Ramey states, “The mission of this series is to expose our middle and high school students to a number of leaders from varied backgrounds who will share their life experiences and lessons of leadership. Our hope is to further strengthen the biblically-based knowledge of what true leaders are, leading our students to becoming the next generation of leaders in their families, careers and the world.”

Inaugural speaker Ethan Kellum, a Jackson Christian alumnus, encouraged more than 400 students to find their purpose, serve God and others Thursday, Aug. 13. He told students, “You can make your work secular, or you can make your work sacred. It’s not what you do in life, but why you do it that matters." During his remarks, Kellum also added, "This place has given so much to me and helped me be able to give to others.” Kellum is a Henderson native and graduate of Freed-Hardeman University. He received a medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine in Memphis, completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at the Medical College of Georgia and a fellowship in sports medicine at New England Baptist Hospital and Boston Children’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. During his fellowship he served as assistant team physician for the NBA’s Boston Celtics, and for both Harvard and Tufts University athletics. Currently, he is an attending physician and sports medicine specialist at Southern Orthopedic Specialist in Panama City, Florida.

Miss Tennessee 2015 Hannah Robison will address students Friday, Sept. 18. A senior chemistry major at the University of Tennessee Martin, Robison will speak to the students about the importance of responsibility in all aspects of life.

Meteorologist and Emmy Award winner Tim Simpson will visit with Jackson Christian students Friday, Oct. 30. In 1994, Simpson joined the staff of WREG News Channel 3 in Memphis. He holds the National Weather Association’s Seal of Approval and is an alumnus of Bob Jones University.

Bethany Haley Williams, of Exile International, will share her experience founding a nonprofit that serves former child soldiers and children orphaned by war in Africa. She is the author of a recently released book entitled “The Color of Grace.” She will address students Friday, Nov. 20.

Gary Taylor, president of Gary A. Taylor Investment Company, will share the secrets of his success as a Christian businessman Friday, Dec. 11. Taylor was named to Inc. 500’s Fastest Growing Small Businesses for the years 1985-1989 and received the National Chamber of Commerce Blue Chip Enterprise Award in 1990.

Hargett is the chief executive officer of the Department of State with oversight of more than 300 employees.
