Kaiser Family Foundation Launches Daily Global Health Policy Report and Policy Tracking Tool As Part of New Web Gateway Focusing on U.S. Global Health Policy
Date:4/27/2009

s. Federal funding for such initiatives reached $9.6 billion in fiscal year 2008, more than double the amount just four years earlier.

"With U.S. policy playing a major role in confronting global health threats, these new resources bring basic facts, research and other information to the policy debates surrounding these issues," Foundation President and CEO Drew Altman said.

Accessible at http://globalhealth.kff.org , the Foundation's new global health gateway will present non-partisan policy analysis and background information on the U.S. role in global health issues similar to what Kaiser provides on domestic health policy issues. The gateway and related resources are supported in part by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Elements of the gateway include:

  • Direct access to Kaiser's Global Health Facts database providing country-level data on more than 100 indicators across global health conditions, demographics, health systems and program financing. The data can be displayed in tables, charts and color-coded maps.
  • Fact sheets on key issues related to the U.S. role in global health issues, including malaria, TB and HIV/AIDS. Future fact sheets will cover other parts of the U.S. global health portfolio and major U.S. government global health initiatives.
  • A global health calendar with upcoming Congressional hearings, government briefings, and other events related to the U.S. global health policy agenda.
  • A library with key charts and graphics related to U.S. global policy, which can easily be turned into slideshows for downloading or printing.
  • A global health glossary that defines more than 160 key terms and acronyms frequently used in global health policy discussions.
