Calyx Recovery opens in Richmond
Date:9/21/2017

A new addiction treatment service has opened in Richmond with a different approach to addiction recovery at a time when Virginia faces an opioid epidemic.

Last year, Virginia saw at least 1,420 deaths resulting from drug overdose, a staggering increase of 38 percent from 2015, underscoring the need for additional addiction treatment options.

Calyx Recovery opened a new, 15,000-square-foot treatment center, located at 681 Hioaks Road across from Chippenham Hospital, that includes room for programs, an on-site lab, counseling offices and space for group meetings and community education.

“With easy access to highways and a prime location across from a medical center, Calyx can accommodate about 200 patients on an outpatient basis, supported by eight full-time employees and a cadre of contracted counselors,” said Natalie Waters, director of clinical services.

“We see a need in central Virginia to offer a different approach to treating addiction as a chronic disease that can be medically managed,” added CEO Jeb Bird. “People often blame themselves for their addiction. Calyx Recovery helps them realize that they are not at fault. We empower recovery by helping patients understand and treat the root cause of addiction. This is especially important in Virginia, where so many die needlessly from addiction.”

The company’s unique approach identifies the source of the addiction – the midbrain imbalance – to determine the chemical cause and customize treatment for each patient. “This evidence-based, data-driven approach has proven to help patients successfully complete our outpatient program at a higher rate,” Bird said.

Calyx patients are able to work, live at home and enjoy family life during the recovery process. Patients have contact with counselors seven days a week along with regular evaluations by board-certified physicians. The company offers free consultations and will see patients within 24 hours to provide easy access to additional treatment services and combat the addiction epidemic in Virginia.

“Our multi-disciplinary team of physicians, nurses and counselors work collaboratively to help those suffering from addiction feel better fast and provide them with the tools for ongoing recovery,” Waters said.
