Birdstep Technology and Mapscape have teamed up to offer customized map solutions.
Seattle (PRWEB) November 15, 2008 -- Birdstep Technology, Inc (OSE: BIRD) and Mapscape B.V. have announced a working relationship that will allow mutual clients in the navigation industry to benefit from the combined content solution provided by both companies.
In this relationship, Birdstep brings to the table their Raima embedded database technology, whereas Mapscape connects its map content value chain. The combination of Birdstep RDM database powering the navigation device, together with Mapscape digital map service will offer a unique off the shelf solution available for the navigation and telematics industry.
"Birdstep is able to meet the high quality database needs of a whole range of navigation system clients, from personal navigation devices (PND) customers to embedded navigation system suppliers," commented Duncan Bates, Vice President of Product Management of Birdstep Technology Database Division. "Birdstep's databases have a proven track record of success providing database solutions specific to the navigation and location based services, with a customer list which includes industry leaders like Magellan and The Daimler Group. By integrating the map content services of Mapscape, both companies can offer a decreased time-to-market in combination with database technology which has the characteristics required from a navigation map database."
"Customers can directly start their navigation or location based services (LBS) application development on top of the combined map content solution. These customers can focus on developing innovative features, instead of keeping up with the frequent map updates," says Harald Hagenaars, Business Development Manager at Mapscape. "There is no need for an additional data compilation step to the Raima embedded database format. In addition to this the map content has been extensively tested and independently certified. Navigation maps have never been so easy to use before."
Birdstep Technology and Mapscape have agreed to offer customized map solutions based on the specific customer requirements. As such, numerous options can be offered, ranging from map coverage in specific areas or countries to custom POI (Points-of-Interest) databases and incremental map updates.
Mapscape is an independent, highly experienced B2B digital map service provider. The company is active in the navigation and automotive market. Mapscape is involved in content aggregation, compilation and testing of digital maps for navigation purposes. The maps are targeted for use on the automotive market in on line and off line navigation and location based services.
