WHO: Western PA Kidney Support Groups, Allegheny General Hospital, Center for Organ Recovery and Retrieval (CORE), The Renal Network, Inc.- ESRD Network 4, and Fresenius Medical Care.
WHAT: In honor of World Kidney Day, a global health awareness campaign focused on the prevention and treatment of kidney disease, Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) and the Western PA Kidney Support Groups will host a day-long educational symposium for patients with kidney disease, including kidney transplant recipients. Participants will learn from AGH kidney, cardiovascular and transplantation specialists, as well as other presenters, about the latest therapeutic innovations and preventive health recommendations for those who have or are at risk for kidney disease.
When: Sunday, March 10, 2013, 9 am to 2 pm
Where: Allegheny General Hospital Magovern Conference Center
About the Kidneys: The Kidneys are two vital, fist-sized organs in the lower back that filter waste out of 200 liters of blood each day, release hormones that regulate blood pressure, control the production of red blood cells, produce vitamin D that promotes strong, healthy bones, balance the body’s fluids, remove drugs from the body and regulate the body’s salt, potassium and acid content.
