Probiotic Action Representative Fernando Perez Shares Tips for Parents with Teens Suffering from Acne and Depression
Date:2/5/2013

Miami, FL (PRWEB) February 05, 2013

The link between depression and acne has long been debated as a “which came first, the chicken or the egg? ” scenario for many suffers. Many researchers claim that excess stress on the body and mind leads the skin to harbor chemicals and bacteria to produce acne symptoms, whereas others claim acne and its treatments has caused depression. An article from CNN gave us some insight that many adolescences, some even as young as 8, have suffered from acne and depression simultaneously.

Fernando Perez sheds some insight given to parents and teens on how to battle the condition; Perez elaborates with key pointers every parent of a teen with acne should take to heart:

  • Be a Positive Influence- Ensure teens that having acne does not define who they are. It’s understandable to be upset about not having perfect skin, but this is a stage in life many go through the same trials.
  • Learn About Treatment Options- Prescription drugs for acne are known to have many side effects and may cause more mental and physical harm, than good. Doing research before filling a prescription for your child could prevent depression, suicidal thoughts, and worsened skin conditions.
  •     Check the Labels- Many creams and washes contain harsh chemicals that disturb the skin leaving your teens skin cracked and dry. Using harsh scrubs and cleansers can create weakened skin, allowing more dirt and oil to seep into pores, and feeding the bacteria that cause acne.
  • Be a Conscious Parent- Being a parent of a teen is difficult enough, but being extra mindful of their mental state while they are battling acne could allow teens and parents to take preventative measures against depression
