Photonics21 Group Announces Prize for Photonics with Industrial Impact

BELLINGHAM, Washington, USA, and CARDIFF, UK (PRWEB) January 11, 2013

Student innovators have until 20 February to apply for the 2013 Photonics21 Student Innovation Award. The winning project will receive a certificate and a cash prize of € 5,000, to be presented at an awards ceremony during an evening reception on 29 April at the Photonics21 annual meeting in Brussels.

Award sponsors are SPIE Europe, Hamamatsu, Jenoptik, and the Fraunhofer Henrik Hertz Institute.

The 2013 presentation will be the fifth time the award has been made. The programme was established by the Research, Education and Training Group (Working Group 7) of the Photonics21 Technology Platform for students in the field of photonics. Goals are to promote research in photonics especially related to R&D with industrial impact and to recognize primarily individual effort in pure or applied optics and photonics.

Anyone under 35 and active in the field of optics and photonics may apply for the award. Links to rules, forms, and other information are available on the Photonics21 website.

Previous winning projects have been in the areas of optical fibre optical systems, organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), photovoltaics, lasers for medicine, remote sensing, and other applications.
