Bayer CropScience Supports 10th Anniversary of United Way Of The Greater Triangle’s Girls’ Leadership Development Initiative
Date:10/19/2013

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. (PRWEB) October 18, 2013

Continuing a tradition of investing in leadership development for girls and women, Bayer CropScience sponsored the 2013 United Way of the Greater Triangle’s Women’s Leadership Council (WLC) Girls Leadership Camp. The camp, which celebrated its 10th anniversary this year, enables girls ages 11-15 to discover their leadership potential and develop a project to engage with and give back to the Triangle community. Bayer CropScience employees and leadership dedicated many hours in supporting the camp and providing mentorship for participants, and the company created a video to be used for future fundraising efforts for the camp.

“As a longtime supporter of United Way of the Greater Triangle, we are proud to continue our collaboration to help further develop the leadership potential of bright young women in the area,” said Jim Blome, president and CEO of Bayer CropScience LP. “We recognize that before long, these youth will be working to solve some of the world’s most pressing issues, and Bayer CropScience wants to help ensure that they are equipped with the resources, skills, and knowledge to do so effectively.”

Bayer CropScience’s video features interviews with WLC members, campers and partner organizations, as well as footage from the camp’s leadership workshops and activities. The video was unveiled during United Way of the Greater Triangle’s annual Women’s Leadership Council Awards Luncheon on October 18. Through this video, Bayer CropScience hopes that others are inspired to get involved in supporting the United Way and providing opportunities for more girls to attend the leadership camp in the future.

United Way of the Greater Triangle’s Women’s Leadership Council provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and experiences to enhance the growth and leadership capabilities of women throughout the Triangle area. WLC’s mission is to inspire, celebrate, educate, and engage women in philanthropy and community service to positively impact lives. In addition to sponsoring WLC, Bayer CropScience provides support to United Way through a variety of company activities and initiatives. The company is currently participating in a drive in support of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, a United Way-supported partner organization. During this time, local employees will collect the items most needed by people at risk of hunger in Central and Eastern North Carolina. Employees, family and friends also raised nearly $7,000 from the Big Bug Classic golf tournament on Oct. 1. Bayer CropScience also supports an annual giving campaign through employee donations, where the company matches all gifts. In 2012, this campaign raised more than $300,000 for United Way. Various other Bayer CropScience locations across the U.S. also participated in a variety of events benefitting United Way during the month.

“Our employees are excited to get behind United Way,” said Blome. “Both Bayer CropScience and United Way of the Greater Triangle share a passion for improving the lives of others, and we understand the importance of working together to address the needs of the local community. By continuing our partnership, we hope to fully meet those needs and cultivate a culture of compassionate service in the Triangle and beyond.”
