Date:2/5/2013

This press release is available in German.

The American Physical Society is the world's second largest organization of physicists, behind the Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft. The Society has 40.000 members and publishes more than a dozen scientific journals, including the world-renowned Physical Review and Physical Review Letters. The election to Fellowship in the American Physical Society is limited to one half of one percent of the membership.

Aspelmeyer has received this distinction for his outstanding contributions to experimental quantum information, quantum optics, and quantum foundations, including the first demonstration of radiation-pressure based cavity cooling of a micromechanical system.
