Prof. Zakri, however, asserts that "reforming our system of governance will help improve our economic engine in ways essential to humanity's long-term interests, nurturing the robust, green economy towards which we all strive, one characterized by low carbon emissions, highly efficient use of resources, and a healthy, well-educated populace."

In addition to serving as Science Advisor to Prime Minister Razak, Prof. Zakri is co-chair of the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) and a senior member of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, the Academy of Sciences of the Developing World, the World Academy of Art and Science, and the Islamic World Academy of Sciences.
